WORDS AND PICTURES BY DARIO BOLLINI

After a long yourney (we came straight from milan, about 520km) and a tough search for the venue, we finally found it. The disappointment was great, because the place was nothing more than a small soccer pitch and Ii thought the Birdmen would be hurt by this.

The tension and desire to rock grew while the Italian bands that made up the bill of the "Medicine Show Festival" went thrugh their sets, before a crowd of about 500 people, of all ages. We met people of the old days of Italian rock, as well as youngsters. The good thing was that people came from all over Italy, some like us from the north, others from south - and some even flew from Sardinia.

At 11.30pm the guys came onstage and everybody lit up. They played about 90 minutes, giving us all their classics. I honestly can't judge the sound quality, since Ii was so close to the stage (actually front row) and so involved in "feeling it" that the sheert physical impact struck me. I also just realised that the "aura" around them hadn't been diminisged by seeing the band live. In short, they they rocked our asses!!!

The zenith was touched with the advent of "Aloha Steve and Danno" and the guitar solo by Deniz. I was waiting for that solo all the week long and when it arrived it almost burnt my eye, soul and brain !!!!

This was the maximum example of a "cult show": everybody in the crowd, from the grey-haired to the pimpled brats, knew the songs word by word.

What I really wanna say is that the BIRDMAN RULES: We had the chance to have short chats afterwards with Chris, Deniz, Pip and Rob and they proved not only great musicians but also kind and humble men. What a lesson for those one-hit, big-ego, no rock wonders around these days!!!!
