WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF…ORANGE - Orange (Hellcat Records)
Orange was formed by pre-teens in Los Angeles who practiced tirelessly for three years, consequently dropping out of school—or being kicked out as the case may be. Tim Armstrong andBrett Guerewitz saw them at one of their many shows in 2004; Orange was signed to Hellcat in 2005.
High-spirited music with catchy lyrics and British stylized vocals, Orange is taking the country by storm. In an all too predictable teenage mindset, they boast a weekend anthem “No Rest for the Weekend” in this typical pop-punk album. The sense of humor bestowed upon these lyrics, however, promises to make even a cynical reviewer blush.
Hands-down best song on the album has to go to “Forgive and Forget,” with apathetically sung, unapologetic lyrics ringing:Get lost! I don’t wana see you again, cuz you were never my friend
Fuck off and die
You motherfuckin piece of shitFor this song alone, get up and go buy this album!
The other songs are inexperienced and angst free - but this being their first album, they have a strong sound. I hazard to guess that in the future Orange will have a lot to say. Till that day comes, if I hear the tirelessly repeated chorus “cool mexicans” one more time, I’ll have to punch somebody.
