Clyde Bramley’s Top New South Wales Live Music Venues 2021

“The Magnificent Seven” (I’m sure there are many more out there, but I haven’t had a chance to interact with them over the past year!)

1. Marrickville Bowlo, Marrickville, NSW
The flagship Sydney venue at the moment. I particularly like the Sunday arvos with a very civilised 4:30-7:30 time frame. Richard Ball always does a sensational mix.

2. Golden Barley Hotel, Enmore, NSW
The Barley is always friendly and is my pick for an intimate, up-close gig. Now that they can have full bands with drums, and with free entry and great sound, this a fave haunt!

3. MoshPit, St Peters, NSW
The Moshpit led the way during the pandemic with live-streaming of all their shows, and hosting the Inner West’s very own “TV” show with “Monday Evening Gunk” featuring the dynamic duo of Rossy and The Barman! A great way to spend government money!

4. Gasoline Pony, Marrickville, NSW
The Gaspo has become a stalwart of the local scene, and moving the stage to the other end was definitely a winner!

5. Junkyard, Maitland, NSW
Unfortunately had to blow out a gig or two here, but hopeful to get back in the not-too-distant future. Always a great place to play, with friendly staff and locals, now with afternoon shows in the beer garden as well.

6. Stag and Hunter Hotel, Newcastle, NSW
Large L-shaped room with great sound and great staff. Local and Sydney bands alike, love to play here.

7. Link and Pin, Woy Woy, NSW
Newcomer of the Year! I haven’t actually made it to this venue yet (The On and Ons will be there on Saturday, March 12) but everybody who has, gives it rave reviews. Well done folks, for taking a chance on live music.

2022 is looking decidedly shaky on the gig front at the moment, but let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
