    Hello Barflies, another year nearly gone, another Top Ten and what a wonderful 12 months it has been. I got off the farm a few times for my horrible public transport trips to Melbourne. A thousand-kilometer return trip is getting harder and harder to get motivated to do, but some bands are bloody well worth it. Oh, and family and friends also. Big shout out to my gig buddy, The Tasmanian Bushman. 2023 - bring it on! So folks, here you…here’s my humble Top Ten.

    X at The Tote
    X     live at the Tote Hotel playing ”X-Aspirations” for its 40th anniversary. What a blast this night was. Steve Lucas’s screaming guitar and vocals are always great but at the old stomping ground, the Tote Hotel in Collingwood, they were something else. A memorable night and the gift of a scarf from Kim Volkman made my evening.

    THE JOHNNYS
    The Johnnys at St Kilda Bowls Club was another wonderful gig. It was made all the better because it was my birthday and Bushy got me a wee bit drunk. And I got a present from Billy Pommer Jr.

    1. Mick Medew & Ursula - IN THE ZONE CD
    I just adore this album.

    2. The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs -  “CALL THE DOGS” EP
    Four-tune EP of pure garage Rock n Roll.

    3. Radio Birdman  LIVE IN MELBOURNE
    Great gig on the Friday night and backed up on Saturday afternoon to see Deniz and Anne Tek  play an in-store at a Northcote record shop.

    4. The Toss – “SPILL THEIR GUTS” album
    Awesome album by one of Adelaide’s finest bands. Review coming in 2025.

    5. The Who – “WHO’S NEXT” album reissue
    Brilliant reissue and remix ,plus a wonderful live album of the band live at the Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, in 1971.

    I met Cheetah Chrome in 2003 when Monte A. Melnick and I were writing the book “On the Road with the Ramones”. Cheetah was a treasure trove of wild stories about his beloved NY music scene.

    A year later, myself and his former Jeff Dahl bandmate, Bruce Duff, did a tour with Cheetah in Spain, where we were joined by his old Dictators pal Andy Shernoff. It was one of the most fun times I’ve ever had in my life.

    Bruce and I played in his band for many years after that — soooo many Dead Boys songs — culminating with a 2014 tour with him and our band, The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs. Lots of miles, lotsa van talk, lots of Sensational Alex Harvey Band, lots of backstage hangs, soundchecks, incredible shows, and mainly just lots of friendship and good times.
