Sydney’s favourite dive bar, The MoshPit, is marking its eighth birthday with two nights and a day of wall-to-wall rock and roll – and it’s free.

It kicks off on Friday, May 16 at 7:30pm with Newcastle’s Jacques Levy's Desire. The first band to play the venue, Blurter, is back at 8:20.

Young guns Pocketwatch plan to get the joint jumping at 9:10 and will show off tunes they recorded with multi-ARIA award winning producer Wayne Connolly, plus a few others. Veterans Jupiter 5 bring the Sabbath-meets-The Sonics riffarama-lama at 10pm. The indie sleaze of Aria Nova is on at 11pm and plays out until close.

The Saturday line up kicks off with MoshPit barkeep Asaiah Riley at 2:30pm. And Laments bring on a set dedicated to Guiness at 3:20.  Josh Shipton & The Blue Eyed Ravens (4:10pm) and The Dirty Mack (5pm) will keep it running.

It’s VICTA and The King St Horns at 5:50, anarcho-punks Whateva at 6:40 and everybody’s favourite Inner West punk trio Slack Punks from 7:30pm. Slack Punks have form: Singer songwriter Luke is the nephew of guitarist Ian Krahe who shaped the sound of X, Rick is the drumming beast from iconic Aussie band The Mothers and Tao is China’s hottest punk rock export!

Alt-rock outfit Toy Saints will show off their debut EP “Colour of the Week” from 8:20. MoshPit habituates Garry David bring their irreverent DIY ethic at 9:10. Garage-punk jukebox The Stallers will take things back to Sydney Trade Union Club or Sutherland Royal Hotel at 10pm.

Australia’s hardest-working punk rock duo The Strike-Outs will wish the ‘Pit and all in it a Very Happy Birthday from 11pm with a set to pin your ears to the back wall and blow out all your candles.

MoshPit Bar is at 642A King St, Erskineville,
