Sacred Cowboys return from Europe and announce three shows

Revered Melbourne band Sacred Cowboys are back from a successful European tour with a handful of Victorian shows in November on the back of their “In The Manifesto” album..  
 
Sacred Cowboys delivered a powerhouse performance at the Binic Folks Blues Festival  in Binic-Étables-sur-Mer, France, in July, commanding the Plage de la Banche stage with raw intensity. Festival organizers and attendees hailed the Australian band's set as a magnificent, high-energy "claque d'amour" (translation: a loving slap to the senses).

Sacred Cowboys shot to national notoriety in 1982 as a fun and nihilistic jolt to the senses on national pop show Countdown. 

The band was formed by lead singer-songwriter Garry Gray and bass-player Mark Ferrie who drew on their experiences in the OG punk and post-punk scene—Gray with proto-punk outfit Negatives and Ferrie with early line-ups of The Models. 

 Gray and Ferrie recruited Tim Deane, Anthony Paine and Damien FitzGerald last year and created “In the Manifesto”, released on Beast Records in France and Torn & Frayed in Australia in early 2026.

Easy Action delivers another Stooges hit job

Head On 1974 - Iggy & The Stooges (Easy Action) 

Yes. It's the Stooges. Live, rude, raw and crackly, murky and full of the crowd. Of course it's an essential purchase - and this one is special for a host of reasons.

So, full disclosure, I am a Stooges fan so I'm probably not able to be impartial here. (ED: What’s up with that?) However, if you're not sure who or what I'm talking about, google "Iggy and the Stooges", have a listen. Read a bit on Wikipedia. And come back before you read on.

Let's assume you've either investigated or don't need to. Easy Action have form. Big Stooges form. They've tidied and released a lot of original, primary-sourced Stooges material, from unreleased studio recordings to live material, much of which was not thought to exist. What's more, they righteously pay royalties.  Quite a few of their limited run items sold out long ago, including the famous six-disc "Heavy Liquid" box set. That one included three-and-a-half discs of studio and rehearsal material.

Post Script - The Fall (Cog Sinister)

If you knew nothing about The Fall and you put the "Post Script" album on your turntable, it's like your first listen to Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures". You'll just keep getting up and turning it over and over and over, for most of the day. 

It really is very difficult for humans to take a step back. Especially if we have expectations. While various hideous and disgraceful wars have been hammering on, for the best part of the last four months, Fall fandom has been a-gurgle and a-splutter onlibne over "Post Script", the band's 32nd record.

Kennedy's Collaborations now available on I-94 Bar Records

The new John Kennedy album "The Berlin Trilogy (And Other Collaborations)" is now selling via his Bandcamp site and I-94 Bar Records with Australian shows to follow,

Brisbane-raised and Sydney domiciled utntil recent years, Kennedy is now based in Spain and his album was mostly recorded in Berlin. It brings together an international cast including Peter Loveday, Paco Peneranda, Frank Kearns, Paul Scott, Hybride Goldking, Peter O’Doherty and Hunting At Dawn.

Filmmaker Danny Garcia's Sonny Vincent documentary in the home stretch

Acclaimed filmmaker Danny Garcia is nearing completion of his final edit of "Sonny Vincent: FTW", the 90-minute documentary he's directing about the life and music career of punk survivor and I-94 Bar favourite, Sonny Vincent.

The film will will delve into everything, from Vincent’s teenage years on the streets of New York, the early punk scene, with his notorious band Testors to his time playing with members of the Velvet Underground, the MC5 and The Stooges, 

A crowdfunding page is being launched to push the final release over the line and you can register for an alert when it opens here.

It was 32 degrees Celsius which is fairly standard Ipswich Spring weather and The Burrow felt like someone had put a stage under a classic Queenslander house and forgotten to install the air-conditioning.

Located beneath the Prince of Wales Hotel, The Burrow is a relatively new live-music space with a low roof, an open side and the relaxed feel of a backyard gig. This was a free Saturday matinee, running from noon until six, with four very different bands and a small but appreciative crowd.

Currumbin’s Iron & Resin is not a purpose-built music venue. It is a working motorcycle garage with a restaurant and performance space attached, housed in what feels more like a big tin shed. Vintage motorcycles and motoring ephemera are dotted around the place, giving it plenty of character and making it a fitting setting for a night of loud guitars and rock and roll.

There are lots of people in early tonight and the mood is upbeat and friendly from the beginning. Each act pushes the evening a little further, moving from mellow to bold and, finally, a bit mental.

The video debuted tonight and was filmed and produced by Tracey Walker at TTB Fitness in Seven Hills, Brisbane.

The songe was recorded by Jeff Lovejoy and Jonah McLaughlin, and produced and mixed by Jeff Lovejoy at Black Box Studios in Brisbane. Mastering was by Don Bartley. It was written by Ursula Collie and Mick Medew. Crank it up!!!

It's not too late to take a chance on Perth's Volcanics

Too Late To Run – The Volcanics (Ghost Highway)

Perth band The Volcanics are Australia’s Best Kept Real Rock and Roll Secret. This is their seventh album in 19 years, but if they walked down a city street on the country’s east coast they wouldn’t get arrested (although in Sydney, they’d run the risk of a local council fine for treading noisily without a permit.)

Seven albums. Most bands are lucky if they make one long player, let alone the difficult sophomore effort. Three of The Volcanics’ records were produced by Rob Younger. So was one by Civic and they got to tour with the Sex Pistols.. Yeah, but they don’t come from Perth.
